The National Health Professionals Council was officially launched yesterday by the Ministry of Health and Human Services, marking the first time this council has been established throughout the country.
THE NHPC’S SHORT HISTORY
For the first time, the Federal Government of Somalia’s Ministry of Health began drafting the Acting Law of the National Health Professionals Council in 2012, and it has progressed through several stages since then. The law was first introduced to Somalia’s lower house of parliament in 2014, and it went through several lengthy readings after that. Nov 2019. After being officially submitted to the President’s Office and signed into law, the National Health Professionals Council low by November 16, 2020.
ABOUT THE NHPC
The National Health Professionals Council (NHPC) is an autonomous professional regulatory body whose critical mandate is to protect society from abuse of medical practice and to promote ethical standards among Somali health professionals. The National Health Professional Council Act of 2020 (Lr. 31) established it.
THE MISSION OF THE NHPC
- Registering and licensing all healthcare professionals and regulating their professional conduct
- Providing licenses to health facilities eligible to run health care services
- Accrediting health training institutes that produce health personnel
- Approving or otherwise rejecting training programs of health practitioners
